We fondle fruit. It’s what we do. We look at the nutritional benefits of each one; we taste, smell, and examine them. Then we fondle them some more. Every so often, though, we come across a fruit that really blows our bowler hats off. Such a fruit is the lemon. We all know that it put an end to scurvy, thanks to the experiments of James Lind in 1747. We all realise that it’s high in Vitamin C. And we can all enjoy the zingy, delicious taste of an old-style recipe like this one. But how many other fruits can claim to tell the time? Not many, and not nearly as brilliantly. Try it for yourself the next time your watch battery goes flat. Honestly. Just run an electrode from the watch to the fruit and – tadah! – a natural source of power. Which reminds us, it’s time to go fondle some fresh produce. Here’s to fruit!
